In the old days of nautical navigation, a slate tablet was kept near the helm on which the watch keeper would record speeds, distances, headings and tacks during his stay at the watch. If there were no problems during the watch, the slate tablet would be wiped clean. The new watch would always start with a clean slate if things had gone fine, disregarding what had happened before and starting anew. In a similar way today, we refer to a new beginning or a second chance as starting with a "clean slate". Our family has found that we are able to come here, forget about the things that worry us, review our plans for the future and get a fresh start upon leaving. We hope you also can come visit and leave with a clean slate!
